When advising prospective PhD students, I encourage them to consider where they would not just be comfortable, but happy, living for a solid seven years. (The average time to complete an Anthropology PhD in the U.S. is eight. I subtracted one year for fieldwork). The same must be said in regards to where one may take a job, after graduation. It’s no secret that academic jobs- especially the stable ones— are frighteningly difficult to come by. Depending on where you completed your terminal degree and where you wound up afterwards, the answer to this could be yes, or fuck no.
